Vision One’s relocation to 610 Americana was predicated upon being able to remodel the existing 1970 building within a minimum budget to reflect a new building design completely departing from evidence of the existing structure. Criteria also dictated that the public area be open and inviting and that the overall floor plan be effectively designed to have an efficient workflow. The existing rectangular block building was nondescript with straight vertical walls, a 70-ft. canopy that was 5-ft. deep, non-defined entry, no detailing and few windows.
The remodel of the building included a complete refinishing of the exterior with an applied exterior insulation finish system, detailed corner quoining and duplicated details on the canopy for continuity. To accent the entry and to add light and interest, a double-sided glazed gable extension along with wing wall returns were added above the existing roof. Additionally for interest the front glazing was stepped to offer more visual impact. Internally, a counter-clockwise workflow was designed: going from (3) pretest rooms (topographer, visual field, etc.) to (4) exam rooms to a education area to fitting, opticians and optical retail area.
