TRUS JOIST

In 1998 Trus Joist teamed with BRS Architects to design and construct a 213,000 square foot fabrication building with 30,000 square feet of office space on 20 acres of land. This project was planned to consolidate the Engineering and Research and Development groups previously located in Boise and Garden City, Idaho, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

In addition to satisfying the functional and operational requirements of a large manufacturing plant, a key design priority was to create a facility that would showcase Trus Joist products throughout. With this facility, Trus Joist had the unique opportunity to build using only the engineered lumber materials they manufactured. This included using newly developed, state of the art 8’ x 40’ x 11/2” TimberStrand(R) billets. As part of the showcase design philosophy, all Trus Joist products were left exposed creating a unique and attractive finished interior appearance. At the time of construction, the Trus Joist Technology Center was the largest building constructed with engineered lumber in North America. The final result is a modern, unique, and extremely functional facilty that both Trus Joist and BRS Architects can point to with pride.
