GOWEN FIELD CLASSROOM BUILDING REPAIR

government | boise, idaho

The site is located on Gowen Field that is home to the Idaho Air National Guard and the 124th Fighter Wing and the Idaho National Guard 204th Regiment and is a Regional Training Institute. This project was part of a larger plan to remodel and repair structures on the base that needed interior and exterior work.

Another two buildings that were upgraded were the cafeteria buildings. These were converted into classrooms that would serve the military’s requirements. The block building’s interior and exterior renovations were designed and constructed with longevity and flexibility in mind. The remodeled classrooms can be divided into smaller educational settings and the instructors are also provided with their own private offices. Another important aspect of the remodel was upgrading the building’s systems to provide energy efficiency and technology availability for audio visual systems. The entry to the structures also introduces a similar angled covered structure as the gymnasium. This is intentional as one of the goals were to create an articulation of the exterior elements and materials to help create a campus tapestry. This particular interior program was an interesting challenge for the design team. They had to sit down with commanding officials to thoroughly discuss and analyze how the military’s educational requirements and necessities needed to be addressed for current and future conditions. We are proud that we can help assess and influence spaces that will improve the lives of our country’s service men and women.
