About us Garfield Place

When the developer of the Garfield Place Medical Office Building came to BRS Architects, he had just returned from a vacation to Miami Florida’s South Beach area. After seeing the bold and colorful shapes that the South Beach architecture presented, he decided he wanted to bring this fresh look into his building and that it would make for an interesting change to the Boise landscape of beige commercial buildings. By incorporating the Art Deco characteristically rounded corners and geometric orientation, the building façade took on a nautical theme, which is further enhanced by the predominantly white stucco walls and sea foam green accents. The two story floor plan was carefully sited on the long skinny lot to maximize the floor area and roadway visibility. The floor plan took on a non-rectilinear form in response to the property constraints of utility easements, setbacks, fire department access routes, City regulated landscaping and finding space for the required 30 parking spaces.

The two story building mass is accented by naturally lit stair/elevator towers at opposing corners that are topped with arched green metal roofing. Between the towers there is a covered balcony on the second floor that serves both as an outdoor space as well as the circulation route to the office spaces on this floor. During the design phase for the building shell and core improvements the entire first floor (4,100 s.f.) of the building was leased to Primary Health Medical Group to serve as a family health and urgent care facility. Knowing the end user for this space during design allowed us to make modifications that tailored the space to the needs of the clinic. The second floor of the building was designed for up to three tenants that have a main entrance in one of the signature stair towers. Currently we have designed spaces for a podiatrist’s office and a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic which together fill out the second floor space.
